SFBP #10 Lookbook: Under the Circus Big Top

October 2011 — Under The Big Top

October 7th, @7:30pm at China Basin Park

The circus is in town! The circus is here! Come one, come all! Come big, come small! Come out to our next San Francisco Bike Party Circus ride! At our ride, you won’t find abused elephants or sad, creepy clowns because at SFBP you’ll find a cruelty-free party. Our October ride will be celebrating the circus in all it’s forms, from our childhood to modern day circus

*************************************************************************************************************
Lion Tamer — You like cats? And we mean proper, swallow-your-head-whole, eat-100lbs-of-meat-in-one-sitting, queen-of-the-jungle kind of cats? Then here’s your chance to let your inner lion tamer ROAR!!! For this look you can gather the following: bull whips, red jackets, jodhpurs and boots.

*************************************************************************************************************

Trapeze Artist/Tight Rope Walker — Spandex your favorite material? Do you regularly wake up with chalk on your hands? Can you look death in the face and laugh? Well you should cartwheel or back flip on over to this look: spandex unitard, cape, tutu, umbrella, possibly a chair if you’re feeling really edgy, and maybe some ballet flats.

*************************************************************************************************************

Unicyclist — Can you simultaneously ride a unicycle and juggle?…whilst also juggle flaming chainsaws? First off, my friend, you are awesome. Second, you should come out in all your gravity defying glory to show us how it’s done. For this look you simply need to be on your unicycle and it will speak for itself!

*************************************************************************************************************

Clown/Harlequin —  Enjoy diamond shapes and/or silly mix matched clothing? Do you happen to have white face paint and nose that honks? Come on down and join our rowdy group of clowns for SFBP’s October ride! For those clowns with safety on the mind, you can thrown on a safety cone as a hat for an awesome, yet safe look. Mimes are welcome as long as you’re not overly chatty.

Can’t wait to see what people come up with!

sfbp#10 THEME: Under the Big Top — Circus Ride!!

Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to run away and join the circus? Well, step right up, the time has come, one night only! Now’s your chance to show off your mad balance skillz on your tall bike. Feel free to express that inner acrobat, clown, or sideshow freak. It’s all welcome on the SFBP 10/7: Under the Big Top–the Circus ride

Don’t worry juggling unicyclists, we’ve got one of our flattest routes yet this month. Check out the map for deets on the route. This ride will take us through SOMA, with some hidden canals and houseboats (who knew?). We’ll also roll through the Potrero Hill neighborhood, past its funky restaurants and warehouses, and cheer on those working late in the financial district. Even though the routes’s pretty flat, we’ll still give ya a couple of stunning views of our fair city, and some gems of party stops too. This bike party is great virgin BPers, and out-of towners, and those who want to ride with us but might be intimidated by our notorious hills.

So, don’t forget to wax up that lion-tamer’s handlebar mustache to go with your mustache handlebars, and bring a camera!

If you need a little more inspiration, stay tuned for a lookbook of ideas.

See you all at McCovey cove on Friday, 10/7. Meetup at 7:30, roll at 8:00.

Not sure how to celebrate the rites of spring with your bike? We have ideas!

Paper Flowers:

Basket Flowers:

I think I am in love with this:

Scraper bike style:

Image from the Matchbook

(Ok, these flowers are not rideable, but you get the idea.)

Electronic style:

The simple, no excuses, everyone can do it version:

Now that you have some ideas on how to dress up your bike, its time to think about dressing up your body!

Idea 1:
Grab some festive colored fabric or an extra sheet and make yourself a toga

Image from the Wikihow page

Then add some flowers to your head.   Pick some up at your local florist at the end of the day.

Idea 2:
Get your friends together and dance around a May Pole

Grab some ribbon and a pole and party.

Idea 3:
Dionysus (the god of wine making)

-some purple fabric
-grapes
-some ivy leaves
-some frivolity to the masses

Idea 4:
Dress up as your favorite ninja and celebrate like those in the Japanese city of Iga.

From the Iga Ninja Museum Webpage

Idea 5:
Grab some herbs & flowers in a bundle and celebrate Deqna d’ Nisan, the spring festival celebrated by many Assayrian communities.

SFBP riders are half human/half machine!

The top five theme results:

  • Robot/Cyborg        34
