May Ride Recap: Rites of Spring!

thanks to the 300-500 of you bike partiers that came out on that windywindyWINDY friday!! we had hoped it would be a little more spring-like considering our theme, but you know what? you guys love bike party so much that it didn’t matter. you love sfbp and sfbp loves you!!

so we all gathered at justin herman plaza for a bit and sort of people watched while listening to different music bikes show off their play lists.

and since the theme was spring time centered, lots of flowers were in effect in various states on bikes and people…and ken dolls?

while sfbp doesn’t endorse anyone for political office, spring time does mean campaign time. looks like someone was out for the bikes and local politics. WITH FLOWERS of course.

…also known as fisherman’s wharf on our way to the first stop: Fort Mason. yours truly rode her vintage 10-speed up to the top and had a blast dancing to bomba estero coming from a music bike.

by the way, in case you were wondering why hills are worth the climb or walk up other than developing a nice behind, shapely legs, strong lungs, bikey confidence and general badassery? the views!!

then it was off to our second stop and the most magical part of this bike party…the palace of fine arts. you all took some really great pictures of our time there. for those of you stopping by to read the recap, the wind worked in our favor at the POFA. it helped create a circle of wind so that people kept riding around in circles, sort of like your junior high trips to the roller skating rink. except with BIKES.

to say our time at the POFA was magical would be a fantastic understatement.

so then we went through the marina (with lots of cheers) on to the city’s major (read: infamous) north-south bike lane route: polk street.

polk street really does rock. the street takes you from fancy gyms, fancy shopping and fancy eating to, um, less than fancy areas to shop and eat and drink. it’s a fascinating street, if you haven’t been while on your bike, you definitely should check it out. (friendly suggestion while riding polk: ride with fenders.)

and then we reached the end of our night at civic center.

thanks to all of you who took pictures and put them up on our flick and FB pages. you keep the visual memory going strong!! keep on bringing those cameras! snapsnap. fotofoto.

hope you guys enjoyed the ride as much as we did! we can’t wait to see your beautiful faces on our june ride. we just created the route! we should be posting it in the next couple of days or so.

we love you guys!! BIKEPARTY!!
